Bidding wars and planned new infrastructure grab the headlines in this week’s Airport World newsletter.

In Europe, Fraport has confirmed that it is interested in acquiring HOCHTIEF AirPort’s international assets; Romanian’s Infra–Group has extended the deadline for companies interested in designing Bucharest’s third gateway; and SNC-Lavalin is celebrating the award of its 12th airport management contract.

Elsewhere, Mexican airport operator GAP has pulled out of the bidding for São Gonçalo do Amarante International Airport in Brazil; the Mayor of New Orleans has announced that he is considering the city’s airport options; and Muscat International Airport has unveiled designs for an “iconic” new ATC tower.

It’s been a busy few weeks for the world’s airports with the opening of new terminals in Buenos Aires and Amsterdam and the news that NACO has won the contract to design a Beijing’s new international gateway.

Elsewhere, Japan’s Tsunami wrecked Sendai Airport is set to re-open; the Canadian government has admitted that Toronto will need a new airport; and Chicago O’Hare has opened a restaurant that plays homage to the city’s Blackhawks ice-hockey team.
