Vancouver International Airport scoops the top honour in ACI-NA’s 2012 Excellence in Airport Marketing & Communications Contest.
ACI-NA has announced that 26 airports are winners of its 2012 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest, with Vancouver International Airport taking home the top honour.

In a close contest, Vancouver, Canada’s second busiest airport, edged out last year’s winner Miami International Airport and Houston Airport System to receive the top prize, the Peggy G Hereford Overall Award for Excellence.

Vancouver placed first in two categories and received six overall awards, while Miami and Houston each received five awards.

“ACI-NA congratulates the winners of the 2012 Excellence in  Airport Marketing and Communications Contest,” said ACI-NA president, Greg Principato.

“Each year, this highly competitive contest provides airports a platform to showcase their best marketing and communications efforts that serve their stakeholders, as well as the travelling public, airlines, and other tenants.

“It has become increasingly important for airports to convey the message that they are important economic engines within their  respective communities.”

This year, nearly 50 airports and airport authorities submitted a record 250 entries in the contest, which encompasses categories that recognise work in marketing and public relations, and provides airports the opportunity to be honoured for the quality of their work.

Awards are distributed in 20 categories ranging from brochures, advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns, newsletters,  special events, video and film productions, to social media campaigns  and websites.

Again this year, communications and marketing professionals from the US and Canada served as judges to review contest entries.

The Peggy G Hereford award is widely recognised throughout  the airport industry as the highest honour an airport can earn in the marketing and communications field.

The award recognises creativity in communicating the  airport’s message, effectiveness in connecting with audiences,  and the overall scope of the airport’s effort in marketing and  public relations.

The award’s goal is to spotlight the commitment and dedication of the winning airport’s accomplishments in marketing and communications.

Hereford – a founding member of the ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Committee – sought to capture the energy of aviation and unleash it to the world.

She served as the public affairs director at Los Angeles International Airport and is widely credited with elevating the profession of public relations in the aviation field to new heights.

Since its inception in 1990, the contest has generated tremendous interest throughout the industry.

This year’s award winners were recognised at the 2012 Marketing & Communications Conference and JumpStart Air Development Program in Sacramento.
