German airport operator Fraport has confirmed its interest in bidding for airport privatisations in Puerto Rico, Brazil and Turkey.

German airport operator Fraport has confirmed its interest in bidding for airport privatisations in Puerto Rico, Brazil and Turkey.

Stefan Schulte CEO of Fraport told journalists last week: “We're on the short-list for Puerto Rico and will be getting involved in the privatisation of Izmir in Turkey.”

San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín Airport in Puerto Rico, which handles 8.5mppa, has announced the tender for a 40-year concession.

Meanwhile, Fraport is also bidding for the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport tender in Turkey.

Similar to Fraport’s current Antalya Airport concession deal, the Izmir bid is a joint venture with IC ICTAS and is for the concession for lease of terminals.

Elsewhere, Fraport has revealed that it is also interested in bidding in the privatisation of Brazil’s airports.

This includes the 20-year concession to operate São Paulo-Guarulhos Airport, the 25-year concession of Brasília International and the 30-year concession at São Paulo’s Viracopos-Campinas International Airport.

Fraport's main business is Frankfurt airport, but it also has stakes in Antalya Airport in Turkey, Burgas and Varna airports in Bulgaria and Lima Airport in Peru.

Additionally the group is interested in the planned privatisation of Madrid and Barcelona airports, but the Spanish government has recently postponed the sale after bidders found it difficult to get financing.
