It is the first time that a SMART Airports event, which explores the impact that airports have on social and economic development, job creation and regional growth, has been held in the US.
It is being jointly hosted by the Atlanta Aerotropolis Alliance and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) on May 4-6.
More than 650 senior airport and industry executives are expected to descend on Atlanta for the show, which will feature over 75 speakers, more than 40 exhibitors and a host of airport leaders.
They will include:
Miguel Southwell, Aviation General Manager, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Craig Richmond, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority
Emilio Gonzalez, Aviation Director, Miami-Dade Aviation Department
Mark Gale, CEO, Philadelphia International Airport
Joseph Lopano, Chief Executive Officer, Tampa International Airport
Skip Miller, Executive Director, Louisville Regional Airport Authority
Thella Bowens, President & CEO, San Diego international Airport
Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, Executive Director, Lambert - St Louis International Airport
Monica Lombrana, Director of Aviation, El Paso International Airport
Chris Curry, Director of Aviation, City of Tallahassee
Topics on the agenda include master planning; sustainability; innovative design and development; airport centric development – land use, real estate and commercial development; driving non-aeronautical revenue streams; air cargo and air service development; and a collaborative approach to planning.
A much anticipated highlight of the show will be the SMART 360 panel debate with airport CEOs, which will be moderated by CNN News Anchor and Chief Business Correspondent, Christine Romans, and filmed live by the Atlanta based news giant.
Talking to Airport World earlier this week, Hartsfield-Jackson’s Miguel Southwell said: “Airports are tools for creating jobs and economic development and we are 100% focused on developing this role. We are a major employer and drive local, regional and sometimes national economies and here in Atlanta we are 100% focused on developing this role and becoming an economic engine that runs 24 hours a day.”
