Liège Airport’s 2011 upturn in cargo traffic continued in October when close to 60,000 tonnes of freight (+2.8%) passed through the Belgian gateway.

The latest monthly increase means that the airport handled 560,000 tonnes of freight in the first 10 months of the year – 5.8% up on the corresponding period in 2010.

Liège is the seventh biggest cargo airport in Europe based on the 640,000 tonnes of cargo handled at its facilities last year.

Located in Grâce-Hollogne in Liège Province in the east of Belgium, the airport is also growing in popularity as a destination for charter flights, the 300,000 passengers accommodated in 2010 making it the third largest passenger gateway in Belgium after Brussels and Brussels South–Charleroi.
