Frankfurt Airport experienced its busiest ever August and second busiest month in its history, handling an all-time daily high of 184,825 passengers on August 1 and 5.2 million passengers (+6.6%) during the month.
The gateway also recorded its busiest-ever August for freight, the 185,372 tonnes of cargo handled during the month representing a healthy 18.4% rise on the corresponding period a year ago. Aircraft movements also rose a strong 5% over August 2009 to a total of 41,631 takeoffs and landings.
Fraport executive board chairman, Dr Stefan Schulte, claims that the upturn in traffic only serves to show how important the ongoing infrastructure upgrade is to the airport.
“Now that we are back on a steady growth course, Frankfurt Airport’s capacity expansion is more urgent than ever,” notes Schulte. “We are one of Europe’s leading transportation hubs and wish to remain so.”
