Passenger numbers at Cambodia’s two major airports rose by nearly a fifth in May, new figures show.
Traffic at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports saw 18.9% growth, with numbers totalling 283,000.
Arrivals and departures now stand at 1.89 million passengers this year across the two airports – a 21.8% increase.
Compared to the same period last year, passengers at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports rose to 156,000 and 127,000 respectively.
Aircraft movements at both airports reached 1,798 at Phnom Penh and 1,794 at Siem Reap, corresponding to increases of 3.9% and 8.7%.
The two airports are expecting to break the two million passenger mark in 2012.
To accommodate the increase, Cambodia Airports is to launch an expansion program later this year to double the capacities of the two platforms to four million passengers.
