BAA is inviting bids for the construction of a 1,340-space multi-storey car park to support Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2.
The €106 million project forms part of a €2.6 billion programme of work which is set to provide 20 million passengers with a modern facility by 2014. The new Terminal 2 is to be home to Star Alliance airlines and it will mean an easier airport journey for passengers.
BAA believes that the new car park, which will be linked to the new passenger complex by a covered court, is integral to the overall design of the new terminal complex.
A ramp will bring car users from the airport’s central road network to a forecourt on top of the car park; here they can drop passengers off or spiral down to one of three parking levels below. On the ground level there will be a bus and coach station.
Steven Morgan, BAA capital director, says: “We are committed to tendering work competitively and welcome bids from industry.
“This is a challenging project and potential contractors need to demonstrate that they understand the complexity involved, and that they have the right skills and talent to deliver and integrate the car park seamlessly with the new Terminal 2."
