Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) has announced that Jeff Poole will become its new director general on January 1, 2013.
Poole, currently IATA's director of government and industry affairs, will succeed interim director general, Samatha Sharif, who stepped into the breach when Graham Lake resigned earlier this year.
Prior to joining IATA in 2004, Poole worked for Airbus in Toulouse and in the defence industry with BAE SYSTEMS.
Acccording to CANSO, he has extensive experience of working with governments and major international institutions.
In his new position, Poole will work closely with CANSO's Executive Committee and Secretariat and have overall responsibility for further expanding the organisation's worldwide membership and govern the association’s relationship with its industry peers and stakeholders.
He said:"As many in the industry will know, I have long been an advocate of the need for CANSO to take a more proactive and leading role on behalf of its members and to be a stronger driver of positive and urgent change in the ATM industry as a whole.
"I am absolutely delighted to now have the opportunity as the new director general to step up to the challenge of helping to deliver on that promise, in accordance with the strategy agreed by the CANSO Executive Committee".
