Peru’s private investment promotion agency, ProInversion, is to issue a tender for the concession to finance, build and operate Cuzco’s planned new $350 million gateway.

The anticipated eight to ten year timescale for the completion of the project means that ProInversion is not expected to announce the winner of the concession until the fourth quarter of 2011.

The airport, which will be located 28 kilometres from downtown Cuzco in the Chinchero district of Urubamba province, will replace today’s Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport.

Growing tourism numebrs to Peru and Cuzco’s status as the gateway to the UNESCO world heritage site of Machu Picchu, is expected to attract a number of international bidders.
