Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.33 million passengers in January 2013, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year.

Air traffic movements for the month grew by 2.2% to 28,200 flights.

The Lunar New Year holidays in January last year meant that there was a higher traffic base which affected growth last month.

Among Changi Airport’s top 10 country markets, growth in air travel demand was strongest for Australia, Japan and Thailand, with traffic to and from Sydney, Tokyo and Bangkok increasing by 10% or more.

Airfreight movements registered an increase of 2.5% on-year, as air shipments picked up ahead of the Lunar New Year period.

A total of 140,300 tonnes of cargo passed through Changi Airport during the month.

Changi has enhanced its retail offerings in the Departure Transit Lounges across its three terminals over the last two months.

Terminal 1 saw the opening of two new cafés – Briccocafe and Honeymoon Dessert; while Terminal 3 welcomed a new souvenir store, Discover Singapore.

In Terminal 2, Chopard joined the lineup of luxury brands at The Fashion Gallery with its luxury watches, while Le Sportsac, an American lifestyle brand specialising in casual bags, opened its first outlet at Changi Airport in the terminal.
