The number of people using free Wi-Fi at Helsinki Airport has increased by 3000% in four years.
There are 30 times more users than in January 2009 and there has also been a 168% increase in the last 12 months.
Ville Haapasaari, airport director, said: “Especially international passengers thank us continuously for the Helsinki Airport Wi-Fi because only few airports in the world are providing a well-functioning, fast wireless online connection, which is free of charge.
“Many passengers want to remain online regardless of location and spend their waiting time at the airport with entertainment or work tasks.”
The way travellers are accessing W-Fi has also changed, the airport said. In 2009, the main way passengers used the service was vi a Windows laptop.
Now, 67% of visitors use the network with an Android smartphone.
The rapid increase in the user volume is mainly based on mobile devices becoming more common and the fact that the Wi-Fi at Helsinki Airport functions very well, the airport added.
