Edinburgh Airport was handed a grant of more than €50,000 because of its recycling efforts.

The Scottish gateway recycled 82% of its waste and 12.3 tonnes of food a month last year.

The food was sent to a recycling plant which uses the waste to generate electricity.

The airport received a grant 000 from Zero Waste Scotland – a body which aims to encourage recycling in Scotland.

Edinburgh used the money to help towards the installation of 75 new recycling bins throughout the terminal.

The gateway has also received gold status in the National Recycling Stars Awards.
