The Chilean government has announced that it will name the winner of the tender to operate El Loa Airport in the northern city of Calama on November 25.

In the running are Echeverria-Izquierdo, Azvi Chile, Agunsa, Besalco and the A-Port Chile-Icafal consortium.

A-Port – a joint-venture between Zurich Airport and South America’s Camargo Corrêa Group (Brazil) and Gestión e Ingeniería SA (Chile) – currently manages the Chilean gateways of El Tepual (Puerto Montt) and La Florida (La Serena).

The new operator of El Loa will be expected to invest at least $34 million on upgrading existing facilities and building a new passenger terminal and ATC tower.
