Friends and family can now give their loved ones a memorable send-off at Brisbane Airport – by getting a farewell text message displayed on a big screen in the international departures area of the terminal.
The airport has become the first gateway in Australia to allow passengers to publicly share SMS messages on the two large LED digital screens.
Since the installation of the 3m x 5m screens, hundreds of visitors to the terminal have taken the opportunity to post a message, be it ‘farewell’, ‘welcome’, ‘we’ll miss you’, ‘come back soon’ or ‘congratulations’.
Andrew Brodie, general manager of terminal retail and commercial, said the interactivity offered has been positively received by passengers.
He said: “It is a great initiative to engage with travellers and visitors and create ambience within the terminal which is both rewarding and beneficial for our passengers and retailers.
“Our retailers can also target and engage more effectively with Chinese and Korean passengers by promoting bi-lingual special offers aligned to specific flight schedules.
“The bi-lingual ads have achieved an incremental uplift in sales against last year for specific product categories.”
Passengers can also view local and international weather forecasts on the screen before departing the International Terminal. The airport monitors the messages and gives no guarantee that all messages sent will be displayed.
