Record year for Chengdu

A record 26 million passengers are expected to pass through Chengdu Shuangliu Airport in 2010.

A record 26 million passengers are expected to pass through Chengdu Shuangliu Airport in 2010.

The total will represent a 15% rise on the 22.6 million passengers handled last year and, if confirmed, is likely to make Chengdu the fifth busiest gateway in China after Beijing Capital, Guangzhou–Baiyun and Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao airports – the latter two registering big increases this year due to the city hosting the World Expo.

Cargo throughput at Chengdu Shuangliu is also anticipated to rise by nearly 50% in 2010 to 550,000 tonnes.
