Passenger numbers up in August compared to 2012 at Abu Dhabi International Airport

Passenger numbers grew by 18.5% at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) in August compared to last year.

More than 1.5million (1,568,632) travelled through the United Arab Emirates airport - a significant rise from the 1,298,717 last year, the airport said.

Aircraft movements also increased by 15.5% to 11,608 compared to the 10,050 in 2012.

It also moved 60,235 tonnes of cargo in the period a huge increase of 29.9% on the 46,376 shifted last year.

Ahmad Al Haddabi, chief operations officer said: “The robust growth in August was primarily due to the busy Eid holiday and the beginning of the ‘back to school’ season.”

He added AUH is undergoing a capital enhancement programme, which will see eventually see the airport able to accommodate more than 17 million passengers annually.
