Traveller traffic soars last month at Mexican airports

Traveller traffic rose 10% last month compared to last year at airports in South-eastern Mexico.

 

Mexican operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) says in September 1,331,513 passengers passed through the nine airports they operate, which was up on the 1,210,926 in 2012.

 

This included 705,339 domestic passengers, a rise of 9.1% and 626,174 international, a surge of 10.9%.

 

The ASUR airport group operates airports in the Cancun, Cozumel, Huatulco, Merida, Minatitlan, Oaxaca, Tapachula, Veracruz and Villahermosa.

 

Cancun International Airport numbers were up 10.9% with 963,468 passengers using the coastal airport.

 

The biggest rise was at Minatitlan Airport where numbers soared to 16,154 for the month up 45.2%, compared to the 11,124 in 2012.
