Baggage system at Vagar Airport's new terminal to be installed by Crisplant

The baggage handling system at Vagar Airport’s new terminal will be installed by Crisplant.

The Faroe Islands airport is developing facilities and is scheduled to open a new terminal and service buildings by May next year.

Crisplant, who are part of the Beumer Group, will design, develop and install a state-of-the-art system.

Among features are a self bag drop and the new semi-automatic baggage unloader to eliminate heavy lifting.

Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO at Vagar Airport, says: ”By enabling Vagar Airport to ensure efficient baggage handling and an advanced ergonomic working environment for our employees, the Crisplant system will help us achieve and maintain a high level of passenger satisfaction and operator safety.”

Originally built for military purposes during World War II, the airport now services for leisure, business and offshore purposes.

In 2012 the number of passengers increased by 10.8% and a 6% rise is expected in 2013.
