Geneva Airport introduces self bag drop

Three Scan&Fly units have been installed at Geneva Airport.

The systems, from Dutch-based Type22, are available for passengers of SWISS, Lufthansa and other Star Alliance members for a six-month trial.

Travellers can tag and drop their bags at the units, but are also welcome with pre-tagged baggage – the first time an airport has offered this combined solution, according to Type22.

Head of landside projects at the airport, Jacques Morgenegg, said: “Geneva Airport experienced passenger constraints in its terminal and saw Self Bag Drop as a solution to create more terminal capacity and to speed up the passenger flow.”

The trial hopes to identify how processing times are affected and how the systems influence operational aspects, like staff, queuing and flow speed.
