The ten-year contract with a possible extension of an additional five years is expected to deliver a lifetime turnover of more than US$450 million and is Nuance's first entry into the South America market.
It will commence in Spring 2014, when the new modern passenger terminal is set to open and will consist of 2,600 square metres of retail space.
The retail environment will be designed to cater to the demands of the 12 million passengers expected to travel through Viracopos during its first year.
Commercial Director of Viracopos, Aluizio Margarido, says: “We are working hard to offer a completely different and improved travel experience to our customers in the new terminal, and the concepts that are being developed by Nuance for Viracopos will positively impact on that experience.
“This partnership, aligned with the developments that we are making, will make Viracopos the biggest and the best airport in Latin America.”
The Aeroporto Internacional de Viracopos is located in an important scientific, technological and industrial centre of Brazil, the city of Campinas near São Paulo.
Scheduled to be open in Spring 2014, the new passenger terminal is expected to reach the capacity of 26mppa by 2023.
Roberto Graziani, Nuance’s president and CEO, says: “We are excited to expand our business to a new continent, which supports Nuance’s ambitions to pursue strong growth.
“Establishing local operations in South America will provide us with a solid platform to further grow our business both in Brazil and other countries in this exciting part of the world.
“We are delighted to partner with Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos to build an outstanding shopping experience that will set a new standard of airport retail in Brazil.”
