Passenger numbers soar 9.1% at ASUR operated airports in Mexico

Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) has reported passenger traffic soared by 9.1% in January 2014, compared to the same month in 2013.

The operator of Cancun, Merida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlan airports in the southeast of Mexico, says 1,980,074 passed through the departure and arrivals gates.

This was 175,000 travellers more than the 1,814,897 that was recorded in 2013 at the nine airports run by ASUR.

Cancun saw a 7.7% rise to 1,515,849 from 1,407,526 in January, Cozumel saw a 19.8% increase to 48,715 from 40,676, Merida up 19.6% to 117,698 from 98,400 and Villahermosa was up 13.2% to 85,690 from 75,731.
