It believes the introduction of ‘world-class’ dining and shopping in the terminal will create a “re-imagined experience, that features a hip, modern Californian feel that taps into the LA feeling and energy of the Southwest brand”.
According to Westfield, the design vision “forges the unexpected with efficiency, which is expressed through simple but sculptural forms curated with artisanal, creative and fun products, palette and finishes”.
As a result, it states that the terminal will be brought to life with opened and expanded views of the airfield and inviting sightlines, as well as authentic layers of materials and finishes, sculpted facades and pops of colour inside.
What is not open to interpretation is the fact that the new outlets will cover 25,242 square feet – nearly double today’s offering.
Westfield reveals that the revamped concessions area will cover a number of unique districts once passengers are past the security checkpoints.
They include ‘The Crossing’, ‘Commercial Anchors’, ‘Commercial Hub’, ‘Marketplace’, and ‘Activated Gate Lounges’ – the latter featuring open dining and floating retail designed to create a relaxed and connected, porous walk-through experience and maximum views from all sides.

“We are thrilled to partner with Southwest Airlines and Los Angeles World Airports to create a uniquely Los Angeles, cutting-edge new environment and passenger experience to rival the world’s best airport terminals.”
The programme will open in a phased approach, with the first Westfield developed spaces scheduled to open late Summer 2015.
