QAIA breaks monthly traffic record in August

Airport International Group (AIG) has broken its monthly passenger traffic at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in August after more than 700,000 travellers passed through the gates.

The Jordanian company says the milestone, which is a first in QAIA history, is a continuation of the steady growth in traffic and aircraft movements for the 8th consecutive month this year.

During August 2014, passengers increased by 13.2% to reach 785,685, while movements rose by 12% to come in at 7,242, as opposed to the same month last year.

Since the beginning of 2014 and up until August, year-to-date traffic and aircraft movement statistics surged by 12.1% and 9.1% respectively compared to August 2013, reaching 4,939,973 and 49,626.

AIG CEO, Kjeld Binger, explains: "This unprecedented achievement recorded during August was mainly led by an increase in passenger traffic to and from Turkey, Egypt and the GCC region.

"This is the first time in QAIA history that we exceed such a benchmark, and we eagerly look forward to reaching even greater heights in the future."
