Athens supporting campaign for return of historic sculptures

Passengers and visitors to Athens International Airport are being invited to “vote” on the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece.

The airport has installed new interactive applications in four special terminal screens – three in the Departures’ Level and one in the Arrivals’ Level.

Passengers can participate in a simple two-move puzzle “assembling” the Parthenon’s West Metope and placing the Sixth Caryatis back to its original place, interactively expressing their opinion on the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece.

Ioanna Papadopoulou, AIA’s director of marketing & communications, explains: “By inviting passengers and airport visitors to “vote” on the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece, we contribute to our country’s national campaign.

“We think that the Athens International Airport, being a crossroads of civilizations, is an ideal location for the visitors of Athens to express their opinion on this global cultural heritage issue.

“This initiative follows a series of targeted actions and programmes we have undertaken for Athens, which has already demonstrated a very dynamic recovery as a tourist destination.”
