AENA reports traffic increase of 4.5% in 2014

Spanish airport operator AENA has reported that passenger numbers increased 4.5% to 195.9 million in 2014, which included an international traffic rise of 5.7% to a record of 136.4 million.

The company says that several of its airports reported record traffic including at some of Spain's busiest at Barcelona El Prat, Malaga, and Alicante, along with Tenerife, Ibiza and Lanzarote.

Traveller figures across all of its gateways rose for the 12th consecutive month in December, increasing by 4.3% year-on-year to 12.3 million, meaning it rose every month during 2014.

Domestic passengers increased 3.1% to 4.3 million in December and international traveller numbers surged 5.2% to 7.9 million, while aircraft movements rose 0.8% to 122,543.
