Perth Airport launches A$1 billion development programme

Perth Airport has launched a A$1 billion development programme that it claims will change the travel experience for passengers and visitors.

The 12-month project is designed to transform the front of Terminal 1 and includes the construction of an expansive landscaped forecourt that will improve access to the complex.

The T1 Forecourt Project is part of a $42 million makeover of the Terminal forecourt that will lead to the construction of a spacious 27 metre entry plaza.

The first section of the expanded forecourt, directly in front of the entry to the new Domestic Pier and International Departures area, will be completed to coincide with the opening of the Pier later this year.

Ertech Holdings Pty Ltd has been awarded a $16.6 million construction contract to deliver the first phase of the T1 Forecourt Project.

The paved forecourt area will provide a more pleasant environment for passengers, with new facilities such as a bus station, improved pedestrian access and pick-up/drop-off areas, covered walkways and seating.

Other features will include full Wi-Fi coverage, additional lighting, public art and landscaping incorporating plants native to Western Australia.

The forecourt redevelopment will also make provision for future terminal expansion plans, including new retail outlets.

Perth Airport's CEO, Brad Geatches, said Ertech’s proposal promises to deliver a quality product that will enhance the customer experience.

“Ertech is an established Western Australian company that brings a wealth of civil engineering and construction experience to this project. We are pleased to welcome them to Perth Airport and are confident that they will be able to deliver a high quality product,” noted Geatches.

The T1 Forecourt Project is scheduled for completion in May 2016.
