Traffic up 5.4% at Basel Aero's four regional Russian gateways

Over 3.4 million passengers passed through the Russian airports of Krasnodar, Sochi, Anapa and Gelendzhik in the first half of 2015, a rise of 5.4% on the corresponding period a year ago.

All are operated by Basel Aero, part of Russia’s largest diversified industrial group Basic Element.

Sochi accommodated 1.5 million passengers (+16%) and Krasnodar around 1.42 million (+8%) while the smaller gateways of Anapa and Gelendzhik handled just over 350,000 (+25%) and 73,000 passemgers (+14%) respectively.

Basel Aero CEO, Leonid Sergeyev, says: “Our airports demonstrated a confident growth on domestic routes in July 2015 and we’re expecting new traffic records to be broken.

"Sochi International Airport handled over 20,000 passengers in June and this bodes for a record year as it handled 16,200 during the peak tourist season in August 2014.

He added that a number of new routes this summer, that included the launch of a weekly Vueling flight to Barcelona from Krasnodar, also made him confident of a good summer.

"We'll also welcome a Tehran-Sochi flight on Wednesday as part of a new Open Skies agreement," adds Sergeyev.
