The consulting firm has signed an agreement with the Russian design firm IngStroyExpert – part of the construction company Eurostroi – to plan a new multi–modal freight terminal at Sheremetyevo International, which is due to be operational by 2012.

The German aviation consultants will provide the conceptual layout and design for the new cargo terminal and its related infrastructure.

In addition, Lufthansa Consulting will design the IT architecture and develop a security concept for the terminal.

IngStroyExpert has been chosen by the project investor Kratos Group to act as the general designer in close cooperation with Lufthansa Consulting.

Meanwhile, the Kratos group is in partnership with the Interros Company, the main investor and major shareholder of the planned terminal.

Sergei Batekhin, vice president of Interros, says: “We consider this project to be a promising one not only for us as professional investors but also for the state as a whole.

“Creation of a network of modern transportation logistics hubs is a key element to the country’s transportation infrastructure upgrade.”

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the biggest Russian airport in terms of cargo traffic and in 2010 it handled 251,000 tonnes of airfreight.
