Ben-Gurion International gets new runway safety system

Tel Aviv–Ben Gurion International Airport is to enhance runway safety through the installation of a state-of-the-art Foreign Objects Debris (FOD) detection system.

The Xsight Systems supplied equipment is a hybrid optical-radar sensing system, which will automatically detect debris on the airport’s runways and alert the gateway of the possible danger.

According to Xsight, various FOD material types and sizes can be reliably detected in most situations including in harsh weather and operating conditions.

Yair Gannot, Israel Airports Authority’s director of aviation safety, says: “We believe that collaboration with Xsight will help to reduce FOD related incidents and increase the overall safety and efficiency at the Ben-Gurion International Airport.”

Work installing the system will be completed over the next three years.
