Passengers at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport can now get 30 minutes of free internet access via WiFi while they are waiting at the gateway.
The City of Austin Aviation Department has teamed up with Boingo Wireless to offer a complimentary WiFi service for passengers, which includes 30 minutes of free access in addition to the premium access already available.
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, says: “Austin’s airport was the first to have WiFi back in 2000.
“Now we are glad to extend that convenience to every traveller as a courtesy. This is an important part of the travel experience to our great city.”
The service means the airport can provide a convenient amenity to leisure passengers, while preserving robust network availability for business passengers who require reliable connections while on the road.
Jim Smith, executive director at the City of Austin Aviation Department, adds: “This flexible WiFi offering enables us to provide two very different constituencies with a great experience that meets both of their needs, while ensuring that the network is aggressively maintained for high availability and monitored for security risks to the airport and passengers, alike.”
The complimentary WiFi is available throughout the terminal and once a passenger begins a session, it is active for 30 consecutive minutes.
Passengers may redeem one complimentary session every 24 hours, however after 24 hours, customers are again eligible for the free 30-minute service.
For passengers who would like more than 30 minutes of complimentary service, there are also a number of free internet access kiosks dotted around the airport which they can use.
Once the complimentary session has expired, customers can choose to purchase additional access from Austin-Bergstrom International’s premium WiFi service provider, Boingo Wireless.
