Big brands featuring in Frankfurt Airport’s new 800-metre long Pier–A Plus in Terminal 1, due to open in summer of 2012, will include Mulberry, Hermès, Montblanc, Porsche Design, jewellery retailer Wempe and fashion department store Engelhorn.
Fraport claims the new airside development will boost retail revenue from €3 per passenger to €4.
Total retail space will increase from 31,000sqm to 41,000sqm with more than 60 new shops and restaurants opening. Food and beverage offerings will include Bistro Hausmann, COA – which offers Asian cuisine; the Frankfurt Wirstshaus; and a Reingold classic wine and cocktail bar.
A foreign exchange outlet, a Reisebank, and a Duty-free and Travel Value store will also feature in the space.
“Quality time spent in the terminal as well as the attractiveness and diversity of airport offerings are increasingly important factors for passengers when they consciously choose which airport to use – especially when it comes to transfer passengers, who represent more than half of our traffic at FRA,” says Dr Stefan Schulte, chairman of the board at Fraport.
The new pier has been designed to increase the terminal’s passenger capacity to 6mppa and it will open at the same time as the new Runway Northwest in winter 2011/2012, which will see aircraft movements grow to 90 per hour.
