Abu Dhabi International Airport is enjoying a year to remember with soaring traffic figures and duty free sales at an all-time high.

A total of 5.7 million passengers (11.7%) passed through the UAE gateway in the first half of 2011 and it seems that most of them must have gone shopping because the airport took $80 million (+7.5%) in duty free sales during the six-month period.

Huraiz Al Mur Bin Huraiz, ADAC’s chief commercial officer, enthuses: “We are committed to continuously improve our duty free offerings and expect to see strong numbers in the next six months as a result of the completion of the refurbishment of Terminal 1.”
