A record 4.7 million passengers passed through Dubai International Airport in July – 400,000 more than in the corresponding month a year ago.
The healthy 9.7% increase means that the UAE gateway handled 29.2 million passenegrs in the first seven months of 2011, a 9% rise on the 27.8 million welcomed during the same period last year.
Routes between Dubai and fellow Arab/Gulf countries (+218,987), the Indian subcontinent (+68,063), Western Europe (+58,586) and North America (+37,435) recorded the biggest upturn in passenger traffic during July.
Aircraft movements also increased during July to 27,166 (+4.2%) although cargo volumes dipped slightly to 192,538 tonnes – down 2.7%.
“This latest milestone further illustrates Dubai International Airport’s emergence as a preeminent global hub,” says Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.
“Not only did we set a new record, we surpassed the previous high point by over 400,000 passengers. Dubai International Airport offers more flights to more destinations by more airlines than ever before which has had an almost exponential effect on connectivity and customer choice.”
