Bergamo Airport to upgrade its baggage equipment and services

Bergamo Airport is to upgrade its baggage handling equipment and services in the arrivals area.

Vanderlande Industries has been awarded the contract to extend the baggage handling system, which will enable the airport to handle expected growth of the number of passengers for the EXPO 2015 in Milan and beyond.

Bergamo Airport has decided to rebuild and expand the arrivals area baggage area, to accommodate future passenger growth.

Currently it is using four arrivals carousels, but during the project new Vanderlande carousels will substitute these and three extra carousels will be added.

The two-year service contract includes new products like EYE4U and MMS (mobile maintenance SCADA solution) and spare parts, 24/7 hotline, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and training.

Emilio Bellingardi, COO at Bergamo Airport says: "SACBO is pleased to welcome Vanderlande among its suppliers. Vanderlande, as world leader in BHS becomes part of the important infrastructural works at Bergamo’s arrivals area.

“The long, well-established experience and the high level of knowledge of Vanderlande will certainly contribute to support in the best way to the operational needs by ensuring, through the perfect functioning of the carousels, the timely delivery of the bags and the full efficiency of the services dedicated to the passengers.”

Bergamo Airport is the second largest Ryanair hub and last year handled nine million passengers, and in 2014 it is expected to become the third busiest airport in Italy after Roma Fiumicino and Milano Malpensa.
