SSP has secured a major contract to operate five outlets at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport’s new Terminal 3 when it opens in March 2012.
The new stores include a new ‘Le Grand Comptoir’ brasserie located in the landside of the departure area next to the check-in counters.
On the airside of the departure area will be a 338sqm Burger King, as well as a Costa Coffee and a new sushi concept called Sushi Express.
Meanwhile, landside in arrivals, SSP will be bringing an authentic Chinese teahouse to the terminal in the form of a Taiji Tea House.
According to SSP, the teahouse will offer passengers “an opportunity to experience an authentic Chinese cultural tradition” with its Qing dynasty design and performances of traditional tea ceremonies.
Daren Lau, managing director of SSP Asia, said: “China, as a fast growing market, has been identified by SSP as a region of key strategic importance and therefore this tender award is a major milestone for SSP.
“We look forward to a long and successful partnership with our clients Xi’an Xianyang International Airport and its shareholders China West Airport Group and Fraport.”
Last year, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport handled 18 million passengers, and this figure surpassed 20mppa last week (December 8).
The new third terminal has been designed to handle 22 million passengers.
Wolfgang Weil, COO of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, added: "SSP will lift our food and beverage offerings to a world-class level by adding a perfect mix of local, regional as well as international brands.
"The company offered custom-tailored, superior concepts. We are very glad to have SSP onboard at our new Terminal 3."
